This newspaper from 1941’s long journey began in Brookings, leaving in 1941 or 1942 for Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. Then on to Cheyenne, Wyoming, maybe Long Beach, California, back to Cheyenne, then down to Colorado and finally to Florida before it returned to Brookings and Dave Walder’s mailbox — approximately six blocks from where it began. John Henry is still alive — he is 90 years old — and living in Florida.
How I ended up with a trade paper from 1941

Brookings Beacon managing editor Josh Linehan invited me to write a companion piece to accompany his column on a July 24, 1941 issue of The Brookings Trade News, a weekly shopping circular, which arrived in my mailbox on Legeros Drive in late September 2025.
