The Brookings County Commissioners put in place a temporary burn ban for the county at their meeting Tuesday morning.

Workers waving pompoms greeted South Dakota Republican Gov. Larry Rhoden during a recent celebration for a business expansion that benefited from $15 million in state tax rebates, two days after Republican primary candidates for governor debated the state’s role in economic development.

A wildfire that’s grown to more than 11 square miles near the city of Custer in South Dakota’s Black Hills had not caused any injuries as of Saturday night but had damaged about 10 properties, the Custer County Sheriff’s Office said.
