BROOKINGS — St. Thomas More Catholic Church partners with Community Blood Bank to host a community blood drive on Wednesday, May 20 from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. With Memorial Day weekend approaching, blood supplies face increased pressure, and the community’s generosity is urgently needed. Donors can schedule a donation time by logging into www.cbblifeblood.org, selecting “Donate Now”, “Blood Drive Calendar”, and select either May 20th call Community Blood Bank at 605-331-3222. All those who donate will receive a $15 Kwik Trip gift card as a thank you gift.

The need for a stable blood supply is an ongoing challenge, one that becomes especially critical as holiday travel and outdoor activities rise during Memorial Day weekend.

Accidents, surgeries, and medical emergencies do not pause for holidays, and local hospitals and trauma centers depend on a steady, pre-stocked supply of donated blood to meet increased demand.

“Giving blood is one of the most impactful things a person can do for their community,” said Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. “We are honored to partner with St. Thomas More Catholic Church, and making it easy for our neighbors to step up and help save lives right here in Brookings, SD.”

Most healthy adults are eligible to donate blood. Donors should be at least 17 years of age (16 with parental consent in some states), weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, and be in good general health.

Donors are encouraged to drink plenty of water and eat a nutritious meal before arriving. Valid photo identification is required.

One donation can save up to three lives. Community Blood Bank encourages all eligible community members to roll up their sleeves, give the gift of life, and enjoy a sweet reward. Together, we can ensure that those in need at Brookings Health System, friends, family, neighbors, and community members have the blood they need this Memorial Day weekend and beyond.
