The Brookings County Museum has stepped into the modern age with the establishment of the first ever museum podcast featuring interesting stories about the history of Brookings County and the surrounding area.
“Generations of the Museum—Stories from Brooking County.” is created and hosted by museum board member Gabe Mydland of Brookings.
Mydland’s podcasts will feature archival documents, museum artifacts and pioneer memories out of the museum’s display cases and its archival room into audio narratives, from dramatic frontier blizzards to the grassroot building of rural communities. The production offers a fascinating look at the people, places and things that help square the rough edges and shape this county and the surrounding area.
“Each episode explores the trials, the humor and the resilience of early Dakota pioneers,” Mydland said. Whether recounting the logistics of an early telephone cooperative, the neighborly solidarity in sod dugouts or boomtown railroad rivalries, each episode blends primary archival history with thoughtful storytelling.
