Dave Quam 77, of Brookings, SD passed away January 5, 2026, at the Dougherty Hospice House, Sioux Falls, SD, surrounded by his family after a short battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Memorial Services have been set for 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Ascension Lutheran Church, Brookings, SD.

Memorial Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 9, 2026, at Rude’s Funeral Home, Brookings, SD.

David O’Nell Quam was born on August 15, 1948, in Brookings, SD, the son and only child of Herbert and Marjorie (Jonker) Quam. He grew up in Brookings and attended school in Brookings, graduating from Brookings High School in 1967. Dave continued his education at North Dakota State School of Science in Auto Body Repair, graduating in 1969.

Dave was united in marriage to Sharman Oines on February 10, 1974, in Volga, SD. They had three children: Nathan, Natalie and Natasha.

Dave worked at Herb’s Body Shop from 1969 to 1982, when he purchased the shop from his dad. He owned and operated Dave’s Collision from 1982 until retiring in 2010 after selling it to his son. He was a member of the South Dakota Army National Guard from 1970 to 1983 and was a member of the Brookings Fire Department for 26 years.

He loved hunting, running and reading and coached and sponsored a woman’s slow pitch softball team for many years. He found great joy in watching all sports, including the Minnesota Vikings, Minnesota Twins, the SDSU Jackrabbits, and especially all of his children and grandchildren in their numerous activities.

Dave loved his wife, children and grandchildren and great grandchildren with all his heart. He was a hard-working, honest man.

He was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church and served on the Finance Board at the church. He was a member of the Optimist Club and a founding member of the South Dakota Auto Body Association where he served as the Treasurer and President.

Dave is survived by his wife, Shar; his children, Nate (Jill) Quam and their children, Ronin, Rorii, Riddick, Rykar, Ritter and Rhett; Natalie (Scott) Garry and their children, Hunter (Emily), Ashtyn, Blaire, Mackenzie (Ryan) Voelker; Natasha (Matt) Schreiber and their children, Brayden and Hannah.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his granddaughter, Kinley Schreiber, and his father-in-law, Eugene Oines.
