Lemonade for Cooper
June 3, 2026

When a group of young hockey players heard one of their favorite Rangers, Cooper Deatherage, had died at just 19, they immediately wanted to help.
And so they did.
All day on May 29, Kamden and Preston Hanson and a crew of Rangers sold lemonade and puppy chow. They were a social media sensation, made the local Brookings Radio news and got a visit from the Brookings Police Department.
And at the end of the day they raised $4,350 for the Deatherage family — who immediately announced they would use the money to help start a scholarship fund through the Brookings Ice Skating Association in honor of Cooper.
“Thank you to every person who donated, stopped by for lemonade, shared our posts, brought supplies, volunteered their time, or simply offered words of encouragement.
Every dollar and every act of kindness made a difference,” Sarina Hanson wrote on Facebook.
