Editor’s note: Here’s how the Brookings Register reported on the construction of a new downtown building in April of 1926.
C.O. Quail this week gave the contract for his new double store building at 323-325 Main Street to Wold-Mark Construction company and the construction work will begin as soon as the excavating is complete.
Half of the building will be 125 feet long and the other half 100 feet long, with a total front of 50 feet. The north half will be 25x125 feet and will be occupied by Mr. Quail and his Columbia Clothing company. The south half will be divided into two narrow rooms which are leased, but the lessees have requested that their names be withheld for a time. The basement will be used in part by the Means & Sanders pool hall.
The upper story will be finished off into either office rooms or living rooms. Mr. Quail’s plans are not yet quite complete for the upper floor. He expects the building to be in readiness by late summer.
Clyde Tidball will start work on his new building adjoining the Quail building to the south about May 1, at which time Mrs. Moberg will have her millinery store moved to the Allison building a half block south.
