BROOKINGS — A fire on Sunday afternoon off South Main in Brookings led to the likely destruction of a mobile home.

The Brookings Fire Department responded to the blaze around 3:10 p.m. on Sunday, Fire Marshal Jared Runge said.

“We had four trucks and around 20 firefighters on the scene for around two and a half hours,” Runge said.
The fire was contained to one trailer at 720 Second St. S., Runge said, and preliminary inspections indicate the structure will be a total loss.

No injuries were reported but the response did require closing Second between 7th and 8th Avenues for a couple hours.

Also responding were Brookings Police, Brookings Ambulance, County Emergency management and the Red Cross, who is assisting the family with relocation.
