Pee Wees win state title on home ice

The Brookings Rangers Pee Wee A team skated to a state championship on home ice over the weekend, dominating state competition by a combined 28-0.
Brookings 14, Sioux Falls 2 0
A balanced Brookings attack — eight players scored and six scored twice — overwhelmed the Flyers as the Rangers outshot their opponents 51-2.
Scoring twice for Brookings were Sutton Jensen, Theo Treml, Elliot Ahmann, Callen Fogelson, Max Harris and Ryker Schumacher. Kaden Ziegeldorf and Finn Konechne also found the back of the net.
Konechne, Ziegeldorf and Treml recorded two assists each, with Harris, Ahmann, Hendrix Schmeichel and Joey Francisco earning an apple each.
Juke Anderson made both saves needed to earn the shutout win.
Brookings 7, Oahe 0
The Capitals didn’t slow the Rangers down much in the semifinals.
Jensen scored a pair, with single goals going to Colton Hendricks, Cooper Hyde, Max Harris, Schumacher and Brodie Bahe.
Konechne recorded a playmaker, Bahe had a pair of assists and Ahmann chipped in one.
Anderson was back in net, making five saves to get the shutout.
Brookings 7, Sioux Falls 1 0
The Rangers completed their year with a blowout win in the state final in front of a good crowd at Larson Ice Center.
Jensen scored twice with Konechne, Hendricks, Treml, Ziegeldorf and Ahmann adding goals.
Konechne recorded a pair of assists with Ziegeldorft, Ahmann, Jensen and Treml each having one.
Anderson was named player of the game for his shutout effort, stifling the Flyers on all 18 shots they threw his way.
The Rangers PWA finishes the season unbeaten in state play and as both league and state champions.

The Brookings Rangers Pee Wee A team capped an unbeaten league season with a state title on home ice last weekend. They defeated Sioux Falls in the state final, 7-0, and outscored their tournament opposition 28-0 over three games.

Pee Wee B
The Pee Wee B Rangers finished their season with three solid efforts at their state tournament in Huron.
Yankton 4, Brookings 3
The Rangers took an upset bid into the third period in their opening round game.
Avery Swisher had all three goals for Brookings, who led 2-1 at the end of 2 periods. Credit Evan Rounds, Maddox Vhandler and Graham Itterman with assists.
Sarantis Theodosopoulos was in goal for Brookings, stopping 24 of 28 shots.
Brookings 3, Sioux Falls 1
The Rangers bounced back with a win on Saturday.
Swisher had a pair of goals and Xander Reeser found twine as Brookings outshot the Flyers 26-11.
Theodosopoulos got the win in net, making 10 saves on 11 shots.
Aberdeen 4, Brookings 3 (OT)
The Rangers dropped a heartbreaker on Sunday, as they rallied from a 3-0 deficit to tie the game at 3 before falling in overtime.
Itterman scored twice for Brookings and Swisher had the other. Credit Reeser and Bradley Cox with assists.
Theodosopoulos made 14 saves in goal.
Boys Varsity
Brookings 3, Oahe 2
The Rangers varsity squad got back in the win column with a road victory at the Fairgrounds in Ft. Pierre.
Parker Nielsen, Jay Harris and Jack Lovseth scored for the Rangers. Credit a pair of assists to Talon Hyde and one to Carson Kludt.
Neil Trygstad was in goal for Brookings, making 16 saves to earn the victory.
Girls Varsity
The Rangers girls varsity team split a trio on the weekend.
Brookings 4, Sioux Center 1
Kinzey Grendler scored twice for Brookings, with Miyah Foerster and Jordyn Anderson also finding the back of the net.
Credit Foerster with two assists and Grenzler, Anderson and Sawyer Triplett with one each.
Avery Dentlinger was in goal for Brookings and she made 21 saves to earn the win.
Oahe 8, Brookings 1
Triplett had the lone goal for the Rangers off a feed from Brooke Kruse.
Dentlinger was again between the pipes, making 17 saves.
Brookings 4, Mitchell 1
The Rangers got three goals in the third period to beat the Marlins on the road. Triplett scored twice and added an assist. Julissa Peterson added a goal and Ava Kahle had an assist.
Dentlinger made 25 saves to get the win.
Junior Varsity
Brookings 2 1, Mitchell 0
Lucas Hovelson scored the sole goal of the game in the first period off a pass from Jeremiah Hovey.
Paxtyn Pottorff made it stand up, turning away all 19 Marlins shots to earn the shutout win.
Brookings 1 6, Oahe 2
Maxten Jensen had a hat trick and Lovseth and Cody Jacobson added goals in the road win.
Cooper Schneider had a playmaker while Ethan Foerster and Rhys Heiberger had two helpers each. Give single assists to Andrew Haufschild and Connor Buckley.
Matthew Bothe was in goal for the Rangers, blocking 21 shots in the victory.
Girls Junior Varsity
Brookings 10, Oahe 0
Khloe Ziegeldorf scored four times, Kahlei Foerster and Grace DeVries scored twice each and the Rangers drubbed the Capitals.
Emily Meyer and Jordyn Anderson also had goals for Brookings.
Credit assists to Beatrix Hovey-Stubbles, DeVries, Foerster, Jordyn Ballis, Lorelei Koch, Ziegeldorf and Katie Vandersnick.
Ava Vaughn went the distance to earn the shutout win in goal.
Brookings 6, Mitchell 2
Brooke Kruse had a hat trick, Ballis had a goal and an assist and
Vandersnick and DeVries also scored for Brookings. Credit assists to DeVries, Brooklyn Nelson, Koch and Foerster.
Vaughn made 8 saves in the win.
Girls 14U
The Rangers 14U girls team won a pair on the weekend to head to their state tournament with a 12-6 league mark.
Brookings 7, Sioux Center 1
Brooke Kruse had a hat trick and Audrey Andal and Kahlei Foerster scored twice in the home win.
Credit assists to Kennedy Hanson, Kinley Foerster, Kruse and Kahlei Foerster.
Ava Vaughn got the win in net.
Brookings 3, Oahe 2
Kruse, Vandersnick and Hannah DeVries scored for Brookings in the road win.

Vaughn again earned the win between the pipes.
The 14U Rangers girls head to their state tournament in Ft. Pierre this weekend as the No. 3 seed. They open tournament play Friday at noon against sixth-seeded Aberdeen.
Bantam A
The Rangers Bantam A team swept a pair of road games on the weekend to close an unbeaten league season and head to the state tournament as league champions and the top overall seed.
Brookings 18, Mitchell 0
Tegan Jensen scored five times, Kallen Serfling scored four times and Weston Diers, Luke Luvaas and Owen Rounds added two goals each in the blowout win.
Jasper Pitts, Liam Heiberger and Graham Gerlach also scored for the Rangers.
Diers led the assist parade with a remarkable 7 helpers, Serfling chipped in 6 and Jensen had 5.
Thor Zell had a pair of assists, as did Oliver Ahmann.
Credit single helpers to Rounds, Pitts, Gerlach and Heiberger.
Brayden Brintnall made one save to earn the shutout — and chipped in an assist as well.
Brookings 8, Oahe 0
Luvaas and Jense scored twice while Serfling, Rounds and Zell all found the net and the Rangers thumped the Capitals.
Branch Otteson and Rounds recorded playmakers, Ahmann had a pair of helpers and Gerlach, Diers, Pitts, Jensen and Serfling had a helper each.
Warner Carroll made seven saves to earn the shutout victory.
The Rangers head to their state tournament in Yankton as the top overall seed and will play eighth-seeded Huron on Friday night at 7:30.
Bantam B
The Brookings Bantam B squad also finished their league season unbeaten in regulation, securing a league championship alone and a first round bye at their state tournament.
Brookings 10, Oahe 0
Myles Anderson and Pierson Rohl each had hat tricks, Blaine Zweber scored twice and Coy Friedrich and Emmett Berkenhoff also scored for the Rangers in the blowout victory.
Jackson Hahn and Riedrich earned playmakers with four assists each while Anderson chipped in two and Daniel Howey, Spencer Lovseth and
Gavin Zweibahmer all had one.
Porter Vanderbush went the distance in goal, stopping all five shots he saw to earn the shutout and the win.
The two bantam teams outshot the two Oahe bantam teams 121-12 combined on Sunday morning.
The Rangers head to state in Aberdeen as league champions and the top overall seed.
They’ll play the winner of fourth-seeded and host Aberdeen and fifth seeded Rushmore at 5 p.m. on Saturday in the semifinals.
