Rangers split home pair for first league win

The Rangers Varsity split a pair of home games over the holiday weekend to get into the win column in SDAHA play.
Brookings fell to Sioux Falls East on Friday night at Larson Ice Center, 4-1, before rebounding to thump Huron 9-0 on Saturday night. The split moves Brookings to 1-3 in league play.
S.F. East 4, Brookings 1
The Flyers got the go-ahead goal in the second period and then potted a pair of empty netters to seal the win.
Ty Salonen got Sioux Falls on the board four minutes into the contest, but Brookings answered when Mason Diers scored his first of the year in league play less than three minutes later off assists from Nolan Krogman and Parker Nielsen.
Thatcher May got the game winner for Sioux Falls deep into the second period.
Sioux Falls goaltender Austin Cargin made that stand up. Neil Trygstad made 22 saves and was only between the pipes for a pair of goals.
Brookings 9, Huron 0
Brookings bounced back to rout Huron.
Jay Harris led the way with a hat trick while Talon Hyde added a pair of goals. Maxten Jensen, Jason Ready, Diers and Nielsen also found the twine for the Rangers.
Matthew Bothe stayed sharp on the shots he saw, earning a shutout while Brookings outshot the visiting All-Stars 62-10.
The Varsity Rangers, now 1-3 in league play, travel to Mitchell to face the Marlins at 8 p.m. on Saturday night.
Girls Varsity
The Rangers Girls Varsity also split a pair at home.
Brookings 5, Oahe 0
The Rangers popped four goals in the first period and made it stand up at Larson on Saturday night.
Kinzey Grendler scored twice, as did Sawyer Triplett. Miyah Forester added a goal. Credit a pair of assists to Ava Kahle and one each to Anna Rasmussen, Julissa Peterson and Foerster.
Rorii Quam was the difference, making 33 saves to earn the shutout.
Sioux Falls 3, Brookings 0
Quam made 33 saves again, but Brookings could muster just 14 shots on net in a shutout loss.
Bantam A
The Rangers collected two home wins to stay in first place in the SDAHA standings at 4-0.
Brookings 2, Sioux Falls Blue 0
The Rangers scored twice in the second period to defeat the Flyers for the second time on the young season on Friday.
Weston Diers and Tegan Jensen found the net for Brookings, who outshot the visitors 50-9 and were in control throughout.
Warner Carroll made all the stops for the Rangers to earn a shutout.
Brookings 13, Huron 1
The Rangers offense heated up on Saturday, with Kallen Serfling leading the way with six goals to trounce the All-Stars. Owen Rounds added a pair of goals and Branch Otteson, Luke Luvaas, Oliver Ahmann, and Diers all found the net.
The Bantam A Rangers are back in action at Larson Ice Center all weekend at their home tournament.
14U Girls
The Rangers dropped a pair on the weekend.
Sioux Falls Flyers 7, Brookings 0
It was all Flyers in Sioux Falls as the Rangers were outshot 30-9.
Oahe 5, Brookings 1
The Rangers fell again at home. Audrey Andal converted a breakaway in the first for the lone Brookings goal.
Brookings, now 2-2 in league play, is back in action Saturday morning at Mitchell.
Pee Wee A
The Rangers went unbeaten on the weekend, earning a comeback tie against Sioux Falls and then drubbing Watertown.
Brookings 3, Sioux Falls 3
In a seesaw game, the Rangers raced to a 2-0 lead before the Flyers came all the way back to take a 3-2 lead of their own. Ryker Schumacher’s goal with 2:10 to play saved a tie.
Finn Konechne got Brookings on the board in the first period, followed by a Max Harris goal off a feed from Kaden Ziegeldorf.
Juke Anderson was in net for Brookings, which outshot the Flyers 35-0.
Brookings 9, Watertown 0
The Rangers were dominant, outshooting the Lakers 51-2.
Kaden Ziegeldorf led the way with a hat trick and Elliott Ahmann added a pair of goals. Sutton Jensen, Hendrix Schmeichel, Callen Fogelson and Schumacher also scored for Brookings.
Nash Billings earned the shutout between the pipes.
The PWA Rangers, who won their home tournament, return to league play Dec. 12-13 at Rushmore.
Pee Wee B
The Rangers fell to the visiting All-Stars, 6-3.
Avery Swisher scored all three goals for Brookings to earn the hat trick.
The PWB Rangers return to action with a pair of league games at home Dec. 13-14.
